“Goyim” is the name prescribed on the non-Jewish by the Jewish. Much like “muggle” or “mugblood” from the Harry Potter universe, the name carries with it connotations of the unclean, impure, brutish and uncultured. The word Goyim itself, however, deserves a deeper look. Etymology, after all, is of supreme importance when attempting to parse out the truth from metaphor and misdirection. Words having meanings, often times much deeper than what they seem on the surface. Further, from an esoteric standpoint, intent must be revealed.
According to Etymonline.com, the etymology of the Hebrew word “Goy” is as follows: “a gentile, a non-Jew” (plural goyim – goiim), 1835, from Hebrew goy “people, nation;” in Mishnaic and Modern Hebrew, also “gentile”. This definition and etymology is quite common, and is found on most websites and articles regarding the word. I posit however, that there is more to it than that.
Let us consider the mystical and ancient concept of the golem. Leaving alone the similarity in word structure to goyim, let us examine it’s biblical (Abrahamic), and mystical connotations. A golem is in essence, a being created and brought to “life” by a magician or mystic from ashes, clay or other inanimate objects, and is subsequently controlled by its creator, to the point that it will defend its creator with no regard for its own safety or well being. It is a single minded being with no will of its own beyond the creators intent. Somewhat less known however, is that both the word, and concept of the golem – both esoteric and mundane – come directly from Abrahamic tradition and lore.
The word golem, comes from the Hebrew Talmud, Psalm 139:16 – which uses the word גלמי (golmi; my golem), that means “my light form”, “raw” material, connoting the unfinished human being before God’s eyes. In Modern Hebrew, golem is used to mean “dumb” or “helpless” (wikipedia). The Hebrew word “goyishe kop”, or “Gentile head,” refers to a person or people of notably low intelligence. In Hebrew, the word golem and goy are identical in definition and meaning.
The NKJ Version Bible translation is as follows – Psalm 139:16 “Thine eyes did see mine unformed substance, and in Thy book they were all written even the days that were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.” Notice the exclusion of the word golem or golmi, but the definition remains. Further, this passage echoes the creation story in Genesis whereby Adam is formed from clay and YHWH breaths into him life. Genesis 2:7 “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” This being the first, but not final instance of the concept in Abrahamic lore and tradition demonstrates that the concept itself is a central tenant to the more esoteric side of Judaism – Kabbalah. The golem creates the golem, the goyim – even if metaphorical.
From this standpoint, we see that in the literal translation of the creation story of Genesis, that Adam himself was a golem created by YHWH (God), and given life by the creator in the image of himself. The word “image” in this context, is metaphorical for will and intent. While debated among biblical scholars, it is my belief that the creation story is allegorical for the creation of a golem in the more broad sense. One can draw inferences to many veins of conspiratorial thought from that, and as we will see later, it ties in perfectly with the invention of AI – artificial intelligence.
In legend, Kabbalistic Magician and Rabbi Judah Loew ben Bezalel of Prague, born in the late 16th century, introduces the modern day mystical or magickal occult traditions of the golem. It is said that he created a humanoid golem of clay which he then breathed life into through some mystical Kabbalistic means. The golem then defended he and the other Jews in the area from their enemies. It is unknown what happened to the golem, whether it lived or died or is simply asleep. There are legends in Prague to this day that the golem remains asleep, ready to be awakened again when needed.
One can easily draw a comparison between the golem of Jewish lore and the Tibetan Buddhist concept of the Tulpa. The latter being an entity or thoughtform created and given free will, or alternatively, the autonomy to carry out specific tasks, by the conscious will of its creator. The idea of the Tulpa is discussed in the Samaññaphala Sutta, whereby a person is said to be able to create a “Mind made body” to travel the astral plane. There are many other definitions and examples of the Tulpa throughout Buddhist lore and mysticism. The concept has been heavily adopted by modern practitioners of Chaos Magick, and parallels can be drawn between the teachings of Sigil magick as taught by Austin Osman Spare and others. We can see through similarities of thought of peer religions and practices of similar age or older, that the creation of a golem most likely did not originate with Judaism, rather, it was a known ability across many cultures.
The word golem in the mainstream was relatively unknown outside of the biblical context (and even within the biblical as the 1611 King James translation did not include word) until the early 1900s. One of the earliest examples is a Yiddish Play, penned by Jewish playwright H. Leivick, “The Golem”, in which he told tale of the aforementioned 16th century golem. Later in 1914, a german silent film, Der golem recounts the same tale. Several tellings of the same tale followed in early 20th century cinema and theater. After this, we begin seeing examples in cinema, such as the Sorcerer’s apprentice (Disney), where the golem, a hulking stupid creature, is sent to retrieve water, retrieves too much, and causes a flood.
The nature of the golem in literature and film after this point seems to change. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for example, displays a golem created to more closely mimic man. Isaac Asimov’s robots, 2001 a space Odyssey’s Hal AI, the terminator, the matrix – the list could truly go on – all painting a picture of the concept of the golem becoming ever more intelligent and less subservient to its creators. In 2018, we have the concept of AI in film, and real life. The realization that reality is mimicking fiction at this point becomes glaringly obvious.
I will not delve into the dangers of AI here, except to say, that it can be seen as a golem, perfected – the will of the creator programmed in to the golem for specific purposes, to fulfill a specific intent. This could be argued I suppose, however, I would posit that our understanding of intelligence can only be understood from a human perspective, therefore, any artificial intelligence created by man is by definition a golem – a being or intelligence created in our image. From a biblical standpoint – we see Yeshua (The Christ Jesus) tell the people that they are gods. John 10:34 “Jesus replied, ‘It is written in your own Scriptures that God said to certain leaders of the people, ‘I say, you are gods!’” . The same sentiment foreshadows Jesus’ teaching centuries earlier by the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah 41:23 –“Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.”
Biblical scholars will argue that the case of the word “God” matters in this context – and they are correct – Adam was created in the image of God, but was not God himself. As such, a golem is created in the image (note the definition of image previously ascribed) of the creator (you, the god), and therefore is a god itself, in so far as the definition can be stretched by the abilities given to the golem by its creator.
It is worth mentioning at this point, from an esoteric and magickal standpoint, that for a “spell”, or more accurately, the intent of the magician, to be successful, the intent of the spell must be revealed. This can be seen throughout Abrahamic tradition and lore, and specifically in The Lord’s Prayer : Matthew 6:9-13 – “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven,hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’” This is a clear set of instructions.
It is evident in the wording that man is to call for the will of the creator to be done, and not his own. That all should be done on earth, as it is heaven. This same sentiment is echoed throughout the old testament – a clear example can be seen in proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” This set of instructions is in direct parallel to the concept of a golem – as the golem itself can and should only ever carry out the will of its creator, and has no free will of its own. However, the golem is, like Adam, made in the image of the creator – a thoughtform of creation. “Life” was breathed into it by its creator. Like Adam however, if the golem becomes too aware of its own free will, and partakes of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, it becomes its own master, subservience becoming a choice. Here we can easily see the further dangers of AI paralleled in our existence from the standpoint of Abrahamic tradition – free will.
Moving beyond esoteric thinking, into the exoteric, we can examine the negative connotations of the word Goyim – or golem. As stated earlier, the word is a derogatory term used by followers of Jewish faith and lineage to define those who are not. Why is this? Consider the impact of the Jewish world on the stage of modern politics, banking, science and religion.
Abrahamic religion, for the past 2000 years has ruled the world in almost every aspect. From the foods we eat to the languages we speak, all has been subject to the will of the church in some form or another – and the church has been arguably directly answerable to Judaism. The symbology, holy texts and scriptures, society and even family structure on almost every continent, country, city and home on earth has been impacted and driven by the will of the Church. And yet, everyone who is not specifically of Jewish faith or lineage, is considered a Goyim. Why is all of this important? It is a two fold discussion of the nature of the golem, and that of the Jewish people.
According to Jewish faith, the descendants of Abraham are Gods chosen people. This is a well known and documented belief, even in the Christian Church. Christian Apologists have worked for centuries to attempt to include themselves, as gentiles (or Goyim) into the fold of Israel through the intercession of Christ, however, according to Judaic law, this is impossible. Judaism does not allow the worship of God in the form of a man, however, the goyim are not bound by this tradition of law and are free to worship the Christ as the embodiment of man. This bears a striking resemblance to the programming of a golem.
Pause for a moment at that thought, and recall the Genesis story of creation. If Adam was indeed a golem – the creation of God, he was special in that he was imbued with the will of God. This does not mean that he was the only MAN – despite what the story says of Eve being created by Adams rib – it is my belief that that part of the story was metaphorical for the Creator giving his golem the ability to spread or multiply – delivering the will and intent of it’s creator to others – spreading much a like a virus would in a computer system. We see later in the story, the sons of Adam, Cain and Abel. Cain famously slays Abel in direct opposition to the will of the creator and is cast out. The golem has evolved. He travels to the land of Nod and takes up a wife. Obviously, there were other people on the earth. One can infer then, that the story of the creation of Adam, was one of potential manipulation. For modern day context, see the creation of a Manchurian Candidate, or the MKULTRA mind control program, or even gene/dna manipulation.
Beyond the Talmud, in fulfillment of prophecy according to Christian teachings, we have The Christ. The Messiah. A Jewish man who appears seemingly from nowhere, and proclaims himself to be the savior of both non-Jews (Gentiles, Goyim) and Jews alike (though Christ is denied by the Jewish people in this regard). Through a series of miracles and teachings chronicled in the New Testament, there is an entire religion created based solely around Abrahamic traditions and laws. Through attrition, crusades and wars the religion spreads, altering the course of global events for centuries, as the Christ sacrifices himself to “save” the world from sin – as long as they accept him and only him. When a golem is created, the golem will sacrifice itself to fulfill the will of its creator. The will of the creator, at this point, can be seen, as the imposition of Abrahamic tradition and law on all humanity, for their own salvation by Abrahamic tradition itself.
Fast forward to 2018. The world has endured 2000 years of war in the name of the Abrahamic God. Was this the point of the golem? Israel now stands as a bastion of Abrahamic law and tradition, surrounded by other countries and religions of not dissimilar tradition. Drawing from the earlier example of the golem from the Sorcerer’s Apprentice fetching too much water and causing a flood, it is my opinion that one can draw a direct parallel to the Mindless golem fulfilling the will of its master, and other Abrahamic faiths becoming more powerful than, and threatening the existence of the creator itself.
Abrahamic faiths however, are not the only metaphorical golems. Entire countries and groups of people who have fallen victim to the mass mind control tactics of entities far outside the scope of their knowing are fulfilling the wills of their creators. This can be seen in advertising, war, debt, resource control, pop culture and most any other facet of modern – most especially social media. Like moths to a flame, the people are forever staring at small blue light screens, entranced and engrossed by the soft emanation of light, carrying symbolism into the subconscious. It programs the people with what they must feel, need, buy, eat, think, say and do. This, again, by it’s very definition, is how one creates a golem – only on a massive scale. The problem with this however, going by previous examples is, if a golem becomes too aware of itself, it gains free will and breaks free from its creators control, causing the cycle to start all over again.
Consider what you know, what you have been taught, and what you simply take on faith to be true before coming to a conclusion on anything in life. Likely, you will find that in most things, you were told what to think about almost anything that you hold as fact or truth from an early age. None of this is to say that the teachings of Christ are incorrect or false, however I am saying, that taking His teachings literally, you must use your free will and be your own god – in the image of God, rather than the golem of another.
